We're celebrating the 50th Atlantis supplied in the UK - The industries rack washer of choice since 2015. 

Fred Newborough, our Washing & Automation Product Manager, reflects on the capabilities of the Atlantis and the relationship the Atlantis has with the industry. 

"Since its inception in 2014, the Atlantis has maintained its status as the industry Rack Washer of choice. Its position as the industry benchmark in processing efficacy and flexibility, has been further solidified as we commence our 50th partnership to supply the Atlantis into the UK & Ireland LAS sector. 

The industry’s cage processing throughput requirements were becoming increasingly demanding, barrier controls more stringent, the average cost per square foot of LAS facilities was rising, and the monitoring of facilities’ energy consumptions was under additional scrutiny.

There had been a paradigm shift in Rack Washer requirements.

A Rack Washer needed to be more than a mechanical washer and a  disinfector of cages and racks. The flexibility to process heat and water-sensitive equipment without compromising operational footprint was a must. A building-friendly design to allow for ease of installation into both existing and new facilities was paramount. A flexible, modular design to futureproof for changes to research models had to be considered and it was imperative that Rack Washers support the industry’s commitment to reduce the environmental impact of cage processing whilst maintaining the highest wash and rinse efficacy standards

The solution to these challenges was provided with the progressive technological innovation that is the Atlantis Rack Washer, which paved the way for all other Rack Washers to aspire to. 

With the first UK installation in 2015, achieving the 50th milestone just 7 years later demonstrates the industry’s trust in the Atlantis, to positively support animal welfare, staff welfare, and deliver scientific rigor.
